Let me begin introducing our team members in Mallow. My name is Flora U. Nagal, I wear many hats in the daycare. I worked as a Supervisor and director for 6 years, part time cook and a teacher part of the day in the centre. I graduated as an ECE on May 1997 at Centennial College. After my graduation I worked as a part time ECE at Centennial College ECE Centre for six months then moved to Playhouse Childcare Centre for 6 years as an ECE teacher in the preschool and Kindergarten. It’s always been my passion to look after children. I worked as a nanny for 2 years in Singapore and 3 years in Canada. Through those years, I learned different ways on how to nurture and care for children. Going back to school to become an Early Childhood Education gave me the experience on how to help children according to their needs and ability, that children are different from each other developmentally and emotionally. It is really exciting, challenging and empowering to be with the children seeing how they grow and develop in many areas of their lives. It is such a privilege to be a part of their early years of their lives. It is a very rewarding and fulfilling that money cannot buy.
Maria Walters is the lead ECE, and my right hand in the centre. Maria has graduated from the ECE Program at Seneca College. She has got two wonderful daughters whom have both volunteered at the centre. Maria is a hard worker and dedicates herself to care for the children. Maria has now taken over the Supervisory role in the centre. Together we continue to develop a loving, fun, caring environment and a great program for the preschoolers.
The early years are an exciting and rewarding time for young children. It is when the foundation is being built for academic success. Children are discovering that learning is fun, which makes them want to achieve. One of the most important skills that a child needs for success in school, and later in life, is to be “literate”. This is one of our main goal to accomplish. We will have main monthly themes and then sub-themes weekly. Themes are a fun way of learning the essential skills needed to prepare them to be successful in school.
Welcome to the toddler room. In this room we have children from the ages of 18 months until 30 months. When the children are 30 months we would like to begin transitioning them into the Preschool room. However, this depends if there are any spots available in the Preschool room. Full time children will be offered the space first.
To introduce the teachers in the room there is Jocelyn Magat the ECE teacher. She has been in the field for 5 years. She teaches the children with great patience and love. She plans fun and exciting activities for the children to explore and develop new skills each and everyday. Valentina (Tin) Llapitan is the ECE Assistant in the room. She is a hard worker and plans creative activities to further the children’s learning. The centre also has volunteers and students whom help out. These students are never left alone with the children. They are not considered to be staff and are not included in the ratio. They are here to learn about the children and how to teach them.
One of the main goals in this room is to help the children build positive relationships. This room will help them socialize and they will learn self-help skills to help them become more independent. We help the children learn to share and take turns. At this age it is difficult for them to share something they want. With great patience, the teachers in the room will guide them to be successful.
This room program plans according to themes. These are just general concepts that will be taught in the classroom. Each program is designed to meet the needs of the child. If there are older toddlers, they will be taught more sophisticated concepts. Through play the children will explore and experience new things every day. We hope to provide them with the tools to help them succeed into the next level. |
